When planning the 2500 year anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir s Moksha in the 1970s, it was Gurudev who suggested that instead of any grand celebrations, compassionate work should take place in the land of Bhagwan Mahavir. With unwavering belief and exuding love for all, Sadhvi Shri Chandanaji (now Pujya Tai Ma) stood up and said that she will go to Bihar, which at that time was a lawless state, and do compassionate work there.

» About Veerayatan
Veerayatan is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which was established in
1973 in the state of Bihar by Acharya Shri Chandanaji with the blessings of Param
Pujya Gurudev Shri Amar Muni ji Maharaj. It is run by a team of dynamic and dedicated
Sadhvis with the support of Trustees, committee members, professional staff and
committed volunteers whose work is performed without any regard to caste, creed,
race, religion or socio-economic status.. Since its inception Veerayatan created an
indelible impact in extending extraordinary contribution towards the alleviation of human
suffering.
Veerayatan encompasses a wide spectrum of activities which include starting and
running Schools, Hospitals and Vocational training for the under privileged section of
the society, especially for the Rural population. Free medical checkups, Eye surgeries,
Polio re-correction surgeries have been the part of our effort. Veerayatan has also actively
initiated emergency rehabilitation programs in the aftermath of natural calamities like
earthquakes, floods and tsunami.Veerayatan was among the first organization presented
to provide necessary relief and rehabilitation following the 2001 earthquake in Kutch
Gujarat, the tsunami in 2004 and during the Surat floods in 2006.

Origins of Veerayatan in Kutch
On 26th January 2001, a terrible earthquake struck the region of kutch. Seeing the
devastation caused, the Sadhvijis of Veerayatan were deeply moved and immediately
rushed to the area to initiate relief and rehabilitation work. With the blessings of Acharya
Shri Chandana ji, under the dynamic leadership of Pujya Sadhvi Shri Shilapiji, several
stopgap schools and vocational training centers were set up to support local people.
Realizing the vast need for ongoing rehabilitation and for education at all Levels,
Veerayatan then established many permanent centers of Learning in Kutch. Using a
professional approach, along with inculcating moral and spiritual values, Veerayatan has
created a revolution in the educational field in Kutch.
Veerayatan’s Initiative of Technical Education
Kutch, the largest district in the country, is witnessing an individual revolution. Literate,
skilled and educated manpower is in high demand in all industries in this burgeoning
economic and industrial hub of Gujarat, one of India’s fastest growing states,
Young people need to be trained professionally to gain employment in these specialized
areas, Veerayatan has embarked on the journey of providing first class technical
education so that young people can be involved in this process at the outset. Education in
this field is vital for the health of the local community and the country as a whole.
Veerayatan Institute of Engineering, Management and Research
India has a vast pool of bright young people – the largest in the world and equivalent
to that of the US and Europe combined – who could be taking up the new challenges
in our country. However, this human resource remains largely untapped, because at the
moment, only 14% of those eligible for the higher education register to continue their
studies. Because of the lack of growth in the rural areas. The majority of young people
who take up higher education and their talent is not utilized for the development of our
country. Therefore, Veerayatan is committed to bringing professional education to rural
areas to train young people holistically.
Achievements to date in Kutch.
Relief and rehabilitations work at Kutch-Gujarat after the devastating earthquake
of 2001. Immediate education in stopgap schools for 10,000 children.
Since 2001, more than 12,000 people have become financially independent
through 36 vocational training centers at different places in Kutch.
Initiated KIDS and Shrutam projects to provide literacy and hygiene education for
hundreds of slum and working children.
Established primary and secondary schools at Jakhania for children whose parents
do not necessarily have a background in the higher education.
Established primary school in Rudrani Village for children who were the first in
their families to experience formal education.
Created modern hostels for hundreds of children from villages where there is no
provision of secondary education or good primary education.
In 2005, the first Pharmacy Degree college in the district of Kutch, Gujarat.
Opened Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Computer
Application Colleges (2008).
Established state of the art Veerayatan Institute of Engineering, Management and
Research at Haripar in 2010.
Clean, hygienic kitchen and dining and dining facility at Jakhania for 500 sittings.
To date, more than 800,000 square feet of construction completed.
Water facilities for over 10,000 cows and other animals.
Direct employment for 350 people.
Extended helping hand to affected people in the eventuality of natural calamities
in various parts of the country.
